Page Title

System Overview:

Each IDI customer application is different, and may include a very different collection of hardware and software elements. This support site is intended to serve the broadest possible range of IUID customer applications, and so includes information on the latest manufacturer offerings that might not have been available to each customer during their initial deployment.

IDI will update this site periodically to add new content, and links to manufacturer videos, document sites, etc. Each product page will include a manufacturer's logo with a link to their homepage. Also, each product model image will be linked to that manufacturer's product page. In this way, customers can always find the latest support links for their products.

The Material Tab provides a tabular reference for common consumable supplies, spare parts, and accessories. The Videos Tab provides a centralized location for product video links shown on individual product support pages. The Operation Tab attempts to show a variety of ways in which Bartender software can be used to control the print process. Options from fully manual data input forms, to fully automated linkages to external databases are detailed.

Hardware Elements:

Find documentation & Specs for the various hardware items under each tab.

Thermal label printers are probably the most common IUID print systems in use. The key features that IDI recommends are a minimum of 300 dot/inch print resolution, thermal transfer ribbon, and WinOS printer drivers from Seagull Scientific. This last element may not be a technical requirement for creating an IUID datamatrix barcode. However, IDI commonly recommends use of Bartender Label Design Software to maximize the ability to provide advanced process automation with nearly any database. And the Seagull printer drivers assure that these Bartender features will be fully available for use.

The Brady i5100 is a recent replacement for the previous generation IP-Series printers. It retains the same form factor, but provides several feature improvements. In reality, the Brady IP Series, and the new i5100 are Brady-branded versions of printer models from CAB of Germany. Because the i5100 is a newly released product, there are not yet any printer drivers released from Seagull. However, IDI has tested the Seagull CAB printer driver for the equivalent Mach 4S model, without any issues and we recommend its use for this project.

Laser Marking systems use either CO2, Fiber, or YAG lasers to etch or engrave product surfaces or metal nameplates. An IUID datamatrix barcode from a laser marking system is far more durable than a printed label, and will typically last years longer. IDI routinely recommends marking lasers from Trotec or Epilog, and air filtration systems from Fumex, due to their high product quality, ease of use, safety features, and compatibility with WinOS software applications. Specs, Manuals, and Videos are shown below for our most commonly recommended models.

Epilog HomeClick on Company logo for link to their homepage, or the Product Logo for link to their downloads page.

RIA has procured four (4) different models from Epilog Laser Corporation, as shown in the table below. This table provides comparative model information as well as links to the pertinent equipment documentation, firmware, and PC drivers. ID Integration will assure that our on-site installation process will update the equipment to the latest firmware level if not already shipped in that condition. The table also provides a link to an optional software application provided by Epilog Laser Corporation called 'Job Manager'. ID Integration does not believe this software will have any value to RIA since its purpose is intended for managing static artwork production. In contrast, RIA intends to produce sequential marking information from one job to the next.

The Fumex FA1 and FA1 mini are 4-stage air filtration systems that are connected to the Epilog CO2 and Fiber Lasers supplied by IDI to RIA. The FA1 mini is shorter and custom mounted into the supplied mobile cart system from IDI, supplying filtration to the Epilog Mini24 lasers. The filter set supplied with these blowers are suited for light debris metal and anodized metal coated materials used within the Epilog lasers. Laser etch materials, such as tesa tape, generally will require different gas filter options that are available in different Fumex models - specifically, the FA5 model.

Bartender Label Design Software, from Seagull Scientific, is used for virtually all of ID Integration's IUID marking systems. There are numerous other software applications to create barcode images. However, we believe that Bartender offers the best combination of price and features, and the world's best data integration capabilities to customer data sources. Click on the Videos Navbar link to review the Bartender design process.

Seagull Scientific Printer drivers are available as free downloads for hundreds of printer models. ID Integration strongly encourages their use over propriety drivers in order to get the most value from the Bartender Software Suite. Currently, Seagull offers no driver support for laser marking sytems. Therefore, for laser marking systems, we recommend using the native software drivers provided by Epilog, Trotec, Rofin, or other similar systems.

The Cognex Dataman DM8072V is currently our most common recommendation for IUID barcode verification. Its hand held design provides 30, 45, and 90 degree lighting options and Win10 Desktop software to auto-generate PDF reports which document both (1) Image Quality and (2) Data Syntax conformance to the rules of Mil-Std-130 . Click on the Videos Navbar link to review the installation and usage process.

BarCodeOS is a patented IUID data validation, parsing, and filtering technology from ID Integration. BarCodeOS is embedded into the Code Corp scanner family to enhance the base functionality without the need for added software drivers or PC applications. Point your cursor where you want to direct scanned data, and simply pull the trigger. Our BarCodeOS enabled scanners provide the world's ONLY true plug&play, out-of-the-box IUID validation and parsing solution.

Scanners are delivered fully assembled, and perform a Mil-Std-130 validation of all data matrix symbologies to assure that they conform to all rules of character content, length, and order. A single beep indicates the scanned datamatrix code is a VALID IUID, while four (4X) beeps indicates a Mil-Std-130 data violation. Scans of other symbologies are simply passed to the PC as normal. The default character output mode is Raw IUID barcode characters with an ENTER suffix. However, customers may request any other output mode with their purchase, and IDI will pre-configure the scanners without charge.

Please visit the BarCodeOS support page or click on the Videos Navbar link to learn more of what BarCodeOS can do.

System Setup & Operation:

The same basic system setup, operation, and maintenance requirements exist for all IUID production systems. Below, we subdivide these requirements by process function. For larger organizations, there may be several specialists involved in the overall process. But for remote field sites, all responsibilities may fall to one individual. No one process area can successfully be implemented without the other functional steps. We hope that this approach will allow the broader support team to more quickly find answers related to their own individual responsibilities.

Admittedly, IT Support is a very broad category. Yet, here we focus on the software & driver installation tasks, network IP address reservation for the printers, along with installation & configuration of the software elements.

The printers in the mobile suitcase kits are operated with a local USB cable connection to the supplied PC. These tablet PCs have preinstalled Zebra drivers, so there should not be any need for further support on this topic. However, for the Epilog laser and any printer connected to the mobile laser cart, it is desireable to use Ethernet network connections either to your company network or to a local laser cart LAN network. Please be prepared to reserve static IP addresses for a list of printer Mac Addresses to be supplied either by IDI during on-site installation, or by the local Production support team who will setup the printers.
All printer drivers have been preinstalled prior to delivery. The tablet PCs in the mobile kits use printer drivers from Zebra and the Generic Text Only driver included with Win10. The laptop PC supplied with the laser cart uses the Epilog supplied printer driver, and thermal printer drivers from Seagull Scientific. But if there is a need to reinstall, the download links are available in the main navigation bar Software link.
All software has been preinstalled prior to delivery. The tablet PCs in the mobile kits use Zebra's Basic 'Designer' application which auto starts when the printer is USB connected to the PC. The laptop PC for the laser cart uses the Bartender Automation Edition Suite from Seagull Scientific. The exe files for both programs are included on their respective PCs, But if there is a need to reinstall, the download links are available in the main navigation bar Software link in order to retreive the latest version of the software.
NOTE: At present, we do NOT recommend using the latest Bartender Software release with the older Epilog Mini/Helix printer driver. Please do NOT upgrade Bartender from the current version 2019, without first contacting ID Integration for assistance.

In this section, we define "Production Support" as hardware setup and maintenance tasks for printers and readers. Also, we include references for local PC driver, and software installation.

This topic only affects the Epilog laser and any thermal printer that will connect to an Ethernet connection. The mobile marking kit printers will use USB cable connection to the supplied tablet PC.
Please refer to the Videos link for demonstrations on how to load ribbon and labels. The Zebra printers supplied, (GX430t, ZD500R) are very simple designs - having no need to adjust printhead pressure, nor media path edge guides. All label materials supplied with these systems are very common 'Gap' type media, with only a single label across the roll width. This allows them to be used without any need to adjust the media sensor position.
There are numerous printer software settings that determine the proper print darkness, speed, encoding position and RF power used for RFID labels. There are also subtle differences in these settings between the various tag types and physical sizes. These setting adjustments can be made from the printer front panel, or its browser homepage (if Ethernet connected). However, whenever possible, we will include the printer settings within the base template design created within Zebra's Designer or Bartender Automation. Printer settings stored in these template files will always override those defined either in the printer driver, or in the printer's hardware memory (front panel setup).
Repair options are likely limited to replacing printheads and drive rollers for the supplied thermal printers. Please refer to the Videos section for procedures for regular cleaning and possible component replacement .
There are no repair procedures for the barcode scanners, nor the RFID reader - except for possible cable replacement. All other malfunctioning hardware elements must be replaced by warranty RMA, or repurchase.
The Epilog laser and Fumex filter are the most complex elements of these marking systems. Please refer to the Videos section for general cleaning and maintenance procedures. Also refer to the full documentation that is provided in the Hardware section of this support site.

In this section, we provide shop floor users with the key process steps to create and validate IUID and RFID labels.

During initial installation and training, a template library of printed label designs will be created for immediate use. But as template materials change along with printed requirements, user will need to know what resources are available to create new designs.

The Bartender Label Design Suite is the world's most popular software package for creating label designs and automating production with links to databases, sensors, and network trigger messages. Seagull Scientific maintains an excellent library of video tutorials and white papers on a broad range of Bartender features. The Video section of this site provides a general demos of how to create an IUID template barcode. However, ID Integration provides a template design service which can be run via a PC screen share class so that customers can learn by watching us create your customized template before your eyes. Customers receive the finished template file by email, and can book additional hours of online training at their convenience.
